Oberon’s Cure - a prequel to A Midsummer Night’s Dream

On Thursday 21 June the Rude Mechanical Theatre Company made their fifth annual appearance in Rowledge, again at Cherryfields , thanks to the generosity of Ian Carter.

This year is the 20th year of touring by The Rudes and the play, Oberon’s Cure, was once again written by their producer Peter Talbot and first performed by The Rudes 15 years ago. The show was performed by a troupe of 7 which included 4 players from last year’s show including two who have been to Rowledge for all five years and it was noticeable that a relationship is growing between the actors and the village. As usual the format was a picnic first followed by the show starting at 7.30 and as the weather was excellent the majority took advantage of the picnic opportunity.

After last year’s full house of 170 people we expanded the capacity slightly to 190 and again sold all of the tickets. Oberon’s Cure included the usual musical interludes, farce, wonderful costumes and rapid changes and of course The Rudes humour and audience interaction, once again proving very popular. It is very difficult to describe The Rudes shows and the pictures do a better job than words can.

After the show The Rudes adjourned to the Hare & Hounds to meet villagers who had offered overnight accommodation before setting off the next day for the 15th of their 51 nights playing in local communities.

Hopefully Rowledge will be once again included in the The Rudes 2019 tour, don’t miss the chance to see them.
