Government Halts Forest Sell-Off

The Government has announced that they are scrapping the forest sell-off. The consultation has been cancelled and the legal changes to pave the way for the sale have been dropped.

DEFRA is proposing to establish an independent Panel to consider forestry policy in England which will publish its findings in the autumn. The Panel will advise on the future direction of forestry and woodland policy in England, on the role of the Forestry Commission, and on the role of the Public Forest Estate.

Alice Holt Protest

Hundreds of protesters (and their dogs) turned out for the protest rally and walk at the Alice Holt Forest Centre at 11am on Saturday 12 February, including a large contingent from Rowledge. The protest was organised by Kate Shervell of the South West Surrey Save Our Woods campaign. Local MP’s Jeremy Hunt and Damian Hinds were invited but did not turn up.
